Court Intervention Offers Respite for FKF CEO Amid Leadership Tug-of-War

In a dramatic twist to the ongoing leadership crisis at Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Chief Executive Officer Harold Ndege has secured a crucial court order that temporarily halts moves to sack him, offering a significant reprieve amidst mounting pressure from within the federation’s hierarchy.

The legal reprieve comes as FKF President Hussein Mohammed and sections of the National Executive Committee (NEC) were preparing to push through Ndege’s removal following allegations of governance lapses and leadership failures. Insiders had indicated that a formal show-cause notice outlining 21 separate issues—ranging from strategic missteps to communication breakdowns—was the basis for the calculated attempt to force the CEO out.

However, the Employment and Labour Relations Court stepped in with an injunction restraining FKF from proceeding with the planned dismissal, effectively putting discussions and actions around Ndege’s exit on hold. The court’s decision underscores the role of due process and legal safeguards in internal football governance disputes, at least until a full hearing can be conducted.

The leadership tension has spotlighted deep divisions within FKF, with some officials arguing that the CEO has fallen short in providing strategic direction and operational oversight, especially in critical areas such as youth football programmes and stakeholder relations. Critics also flagged concerns over internal communication failures and alleged sidelining of key NEC voices.

For his part, Ndege has portrayed the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, stressing that the court’s stay order validates his position and protects the integrity of the federation’s leadership processes. Supporters of the CEO argue that internal mechanisms—not abrupt leadership changes—should be used to resolve disputes, and that the federation’s stability must remain paramount.

The NEC is scheduled to reconvene in the coming days, and with the court’s intervention, Tuesday’s developments are set to add fresh layers to the unfolding governance saga at Kenya’s top football body.
