“Farewell to the Fayah Mummah: Iconic Reggae MC Devastatingly Loses Longstanding Battle against Endometriosis”

The queen of reggae entertainment, Jahmby Koikai aka Fyah Mummah has just been pronounced dead, after a long-standing battle with cancer. She was pronounced dead at the ICU unit in Nairobi hospital on Monday at around 9pm. Koikai’s predicament started when she was diagnosed with endometriosis at the tender age of 13 and after 18 unsuccessful surgeries, she was diagnosed with stage four thoracic endometriosis at the age of 29. She was later on advised by her oncorlogist to seek further medical assistance abroad since there were no current medical specialists in  Kenya. She then moved to Atlanta Georgia to seek specialized treatement, after she was able to raise ten million shillings which she needed for a vital surgery needed to prevent her lungs from collapsing. She then returned to Kenya and was admitted in Nairobi hospital where she continued her treatment, where she lost her life on June 4, 2024.

Jahmby Koikai’s career in entertainment spanned over two decades, influenced by her uncle who introduced her to the genre. Initially trained as a DJ, she found her passion in emceeing where she became immensely impactful.

Her talent and dedication propelled her to prominence, leading to opportunities with Metro FM, KBC between 2008 and 2012 and the Nation Media Group in 2012.

She also founded her company, Street Empire Entertainment, and gained recognition for hosting reggae shows both locally and internationally. She became a notable figure in the Kenyan reggae scene, due to her wonderful personality, relatability, sensational voice, deep understanding of the reggae genre and most importantly her down to earth personality.

She will forever be remembered for being a veteran of not only the reggae music but also as a vocal advocate in sensitizing and countering the battle against endometriosis, that has silently plagued 1 in every 10 women. Her loss has deeply saddened the whole country and particularly all reggae fans across the globe, despite her death her spirit will forever burn in each person inspired by her journey that was filled with hope, determination, beauty and most importantly her undying love for reggae.
