Microsoft Corp has announced a further multibillion dollar investment in OpenAI, a startup behind the chatbot sensation ChatGPT, which sets the stage for more competition with rival Alphabet’s Google.
Microsoft has previously dedicated $1 billion for the startup co-founded by Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman nearly four years ago and has since built a supercomputer to power OpenAI’s technology.
The companies will now be able to commercialize the AI technology that results from their partnership through a multiyear, multibillion dollar investment. The terms of the latest investment have not been disclosed, with some media outlets reporting that it would be $10 billion.
