In a spirited and strategic move to solidify his political ambitions, Tim Wanyonyi, the Westlands Constituency MP and ODM chairperson, made a bold declaration during a membership recruitment drive at Waithaka Social Hall, Dagoretti South Constituency.
Wanyonyi unequivocally stated his intention to be on the Nairobi gubernatorial ballot in 2027 as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, reinforcing his commitment to the party and his vision for the city’s future.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of ODM members and chairpersons from various Nairobi constituencies, Wanyonyi laid out his plans and aspirations, emphasizing his determination to secure the gubernatorial seat.

“Our journey has no reverse gear. We have to end up at City Hall. I have to be at the ballot on ODM ticket,” Wanyonyi declared, receiving a wave of applause and support from the gathered supporters.
Wanyonyi’s speech was marked by a clear and focused message: the time for ODM to reclaim Nairobi is now. He reiterated the party leader Raila Odinga’s endorsement, stating, “Our party leader Baba Raila Odinga has already said that the next Nairobi governor will be from ODM and will be Tim Wanyonyi.”
As part of his strategic vision, Wanyonyi urged ODM members to actively participate in strengthening the party’s base. “Let us embark on recruiting new members and strengthen our party. When it gets to 2026, our journey to reclaim Nairobi will start in earnest,” he emphasized.

Wanyonyi also addressed the importance of loyalty and unity within the party, warning against supporting candidates from rival parties. “In case there are people who are in ODM but are rooting for people who are in other parties, we will not be with them,” he asserted.
Reflecting on past successes, Wanyonyi reminded attendees of ODM’s historical strength in Nairobi. “In 2007, we won 7 out of 8 MP seats in Nairobi and lost only Dagoretti,” he said, highlighting the party’s potential to dominate the city’s political landscape once again.

Looking forward, Wanyonyi promised to launch his gubernatorial campaign in Dagoretti South and move across the city to galvanize support. “I will come to launch my gubernatorial bid here in Dagoretti South. We will start here and finish at Embakasi Central, which is the extreme constituency on the other side of Eastlands.
The whole of Nairobi will be with us,” he proclaimed, outlining a comprehensive and inclusive campaign strategy. “Whoever thinks they will remove me from ODM will be shocked. Even Raila Odinga knows the only person who can deliver Nairobi on ODM is Tim Wanyonyi,” he stated confidently.
