Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi on Friday, December 5, 2025, hosted a heartwarming Early Christmas Celebration with 300 elderly citizens drawn from the five wards of Westlands — Kangemi, Mountain View, Kitisuru, Parklands and Karura — at Visa Oshwal Primary School.

The colourful event, filled with music, dance, prayer and shared joy, was dedicated to honouring the senior citizens who form the backbone of Westlands . Each elder received Christmas goodies as part of the MP’s long-standing tradition of ensuring that every family, including those who remain in Nairobi during the holidays, has something to celebrate with.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Wanyonyi delivered an emotional and deeply personal message, reminding the elders of the special place they hold in his leadership journey.

“You are our mothers — the people who gave birth to us and took care of us until we built our own homes. I can never forget you,” he said. “When I first came to Westlands, you didn’t know me. I walked to you, we spoke, and you accepted me. People wondered who this was because you were used to a different style of leadership, one that relied on force. I said I would talk to you, embrace you, and serve without segregating anyone — and you welcomed me.”

The crowd applauded as he reminded them that their blessings have shaped his journey and kept Westlands united over the years.
Hon. Wanyonyi emphasized that while youth are often the most active in politics, elders remain the moral compass and source of wisdom for any society. He highlighted the importance of their guidance, prayers, and encouragement which, he said, “have brought us this far.”
Over the years, the MP has implemented several social protection programs specifically tailored for senior citizens. These include the sponsorship of NHIF — now transitioned to the Social Health Authority (SHA) — ensuring that elders can access healthcare reliably and affordably. Hon. Wanyonyi reaffirmed his commitment to continue financing their health cover.
“We said we would pay your NHIF, which is now SHA, so that you are taken care of — and we continue paying,” he told the elders, who responded with loud applause.
He further celebrated the strides made in supporting education, noting that many elders often bring their grandchildren for bursaries, and his office continues to respond to this need each year.
Reflecting on his political journey, Hon. Wanyonyi reassured the elders not to worry about the future of Westlands.
“When Abraham walked with Isaac to sacrifice, Isaac asked where the sacrifice was. Abraham said God would provide. Even when I leave, God will provide a leader for Westlands,” he said. “Whoever we place our hands on will take care of you. You have the power — if leaders come to joke, remove them and put new ones.”
He cautioned against individuals showing interest in the Westlands parliamentary seat without the capacity to lead, urging elders to remain vigilant and wise as the political season approaches.
“There are people eyeing the Westlands seat but cannot even take care of their own homes,” he said firmly. “At the right time, I will guide you on the right person to support. If they joke, I will tell them to step aside. They must take care of you as I have done.”
Hon. Wanyonyi reiterated his commitment to complete all ongoing projects in the remaining two years of his term — paving the way for future leaders to build on a strong foundation. He also stressed the need to empower the youth so they can become self-reliant, productive, and secure their own livelihoods.
As the event drew to a close, the MP wished the elders a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, urging them to continue praying for the country’s leadership — from the President to local leaders — so they can govern with wisdom and courage.
“I wish you good health,” he said. “Let us walk together peacefully and coexist as one community. Even as I go to Bungoma, it is still Kenya — and I will always return to look for you.”
The elders showered him with blessings, acknowledging his consistent support, humility, and open-door leadership style.
The Early Christmas Celebration once again reaffirmed Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s deep connection to the people of Westlands and his unwavering commitment to inclusive, compassionate leadership grounded in service, community, and shared values.
