Tim Wanyonyi Joins Leaders in Mourning Pope Francis at Apostolic Nunciature in Nairobi

Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi was today among Catholic Members of Parliament who joined ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and other dignitaries at the Apostolic Nunciature in Nairobi to offer condolences following the passing of Pope Francis

The leaders signed a condolence book in honour of the late pontiff, who is fondly remembered for his humility, compassion, and unwavering voice for the oppressed across the globe.

Speaking at the event, Raila Odinga mourned Pope Francis as a gentle, prayerful leader who always stood with the weak and spoke out against injustice.

“He was a very gentle person; he struggled to pray for the world. Each time there’s trouble anywhere, he has spoken for the downtrodden and the weakest. I hope the Church gets another Pope like him,” Raila said.

On his part, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who will officially represent President William Ruto during the Pope’s burial in Rome on Saturday, April 26, 2025, recalled Pope Francis’ historic 2015 visit to Kenya, describing it as unforgettable.

“As Kenyans and as the Catholic family, we always cherish our Pope. In 2015, he visited Kenya and left an indelible mark on our hearts,” said Wetang’ula.

Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, a devout Catholic, has been a consistent figure in matters of faith and his presence at the Nunciature  reaffirmed his solidarity with the Church and the global Catholic community during this time of mourning.

May Papa wa Roma rest in eternal peace. 🕊️🙏
