The Westlands NG-CDF bursary application process for Kangemi Ward was conducted today at Kabete National Polytechnic grounds, with a total of 1,300 applications received—1,000 for secondary school students and 300 for college and university students.
Addressing residents, Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support his family received following the passing of his mother. “Thank you to the people of Kangemi and Westlands for coming to my home to console us. You showed great love, offered good prayers, and we gave her a proper send-off,” he said.
The MP emphasized the importance of education, stating that bursaries are meant to ease the financial burden for parents and ensure all children continue their studies. “We do not have bursaries for Form Ones this year, so we have additional forms for other students. Once you receive a form, fill it out and submit it immediately to avoid errors in the cheque processing. We want every student with a bursary form to receive funding,” he noted.
Tim Wanyonyi highlighted his efforts in technical education, mentioning that 50 girls were recently enrolled at Kibondeni College for training in Foods & Beverage and Housekeeping, with their fees fully covered. “I will always seek opportunities that benefit my constituents because that is why you elected me,” he added.
The MP reiterated his intention to vie for Nairobi Governor in 2027. “In the last election, I sought your permission to run for governor, but due to coalition agreements, I had to wait. This time, I will go full throttle. Leadership is given by the people, and if you fail to meet their expectations, they will choose someone else. I am a hard worker, I know my people, and I understand your challenges,” he declared.
Tim Wanyonyi urged young people to be mindful of what they post on social media, as it can impact their future. He also called on the government to respect freedom of expression and stop the abduction of outspoken youth. “We do not want our children taken to unknown places. This is putting Kenya in a bad place. Some young people have gone missing and were later found in mortuaries—this is a violation of human rights,” he warned.
He also criticized the recent abduction of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye from Nairobi. “Why are such incidents happening under our watch as leaders?” he questioned.
Clarifying ODM’s position in national politics, the MP reiterated that the party remains in the opposition despite supporting the government on certain issues. “Our party leader Raila Odinga asked us to help the government, but we are not part of it. We are fully in the opposition, and our role is to check the government,” he explained, citing concerns about the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHA).
Tim Wanyonyi cautioned those eyeing political positions in Westlands, urging them to respect the current officeholders. “If you want to vie for any seat, be patient and do not interfere with those in office now. I will serve you as your MP until August 2027,” he asserted.
Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya welcomed the bursary initiative and called for unity in leadership. “I am happy to be given this opportunity. Let us avoid insults and divisive politics. I will complement the development efforts of MP Wanyonyi in Kangemi,” he said
Westlands NG-CDF Chairperson Frida Lenayasa noted that the bursary process began in Karura Ward and for Kangemi was moved to Kabete National Polytechnic due to the ongoing construction of Kihumbuini Stadium.
She also highlighted key development projects in Kangemi under Tim Wanyonyi’s leadership, including:
- New Kihumbuini and Kihumbuini Primary School – Recently paved with cabro.
- New Classrooms – Six new classrooms at New Kihumbuini and five at Kihumbuini Primary.
- Road Infrastructure – Construction of Munene Road and Kangemi-Gichagi Road.
MP Tim Wanyonyi reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring all students receive the financial support they need.
