Liz Truss resigned as United Kingdom’s Prime Minister just after six weeks after replacing Boris Johnson. Liz became UK’s PM on September 6 and resigned just after 45 days breaking the record which was previously held by George Canning who died in office in 1827 just after serving for 119 days.
Liz’s resignation was impacted by her mini-budget which was unveiled on his third week of duty by finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng. The mini-budget was widely blamed and criticized for reducing the value of the pound and panicked the financial markets.
The mini-budget has since been reversed and the finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng sacked as chancellor. Liz faced criticism even from her own Conservative Party MPs which led to her resigning only 45 days after taking the office.
Truss became the Prime Minister after beating the former Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the final round with 80,000 votes. Only Conservative MPs and party members got to vote to make her leader. This is called leadership campaign and not general election.
