Tim Wanyonyi Courts Mathare’s Muslim Community Support for 2027 Gubernatorial Bid

In a bid to bolster his aspirations for the Nairobi City County governorship in 2027, Hon Tim Wanyonyi, the current Member of Parliament for Westlands, has appealed to the Muslim community in Nairobi for their backing.

Addressing worshippers at Huruma Mosque, where he was hosted by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch for Friday prayers and a fundraiser for the construction of Al Furwan Mosque in Marsabit County, Wanyonyi urged the Muslim community to rally behind him in the gubernatorial elections in 2027.

“Right now I am the MP of Westlands, though in 2022 I had vied for the Nairobi City County governor’s seat and that ambition is still on. Come 2027, I want you, the Muslim community, to support me, and I will work for you in the best way you desire,” expressed Wanyonyi during his address.

Extending his best wishes for Ramadhan, Wanyonyi also called upon the Muslim community to pray for the leadership of Kenya, expressing confidence that through unity and prayer, solutions to the nation’s challenges could be found.

Furthermore, Wanyonyi dismissed speculations about the potential political vacuum that may arise should Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio party, assume the role of African Union Chairman in February 2025.

He emphasized that Raila’s influence and impact on Kenya’s political landscape would only increase.

Assuring his commitment to the Muslim community’s welfare, Wanyonyi pledged to be an ally in their development endeavors, urging them to reach out to him for support.

In response, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch echoed Wanyonyi’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of supporting Raila’s current endeavors before speculating on future political transitions.

Oluoch also addressed concerns regarding the potential closure of the Kiamaiko slaughterhouse, a vital economic center in Huruma Ward and Mathare Constituency.

He pledged to lead demonstrations against its closure and urged Wanyonyi to champion legislation in Parliament to prevent its shutdown.

Commending Wanyonyi for his responsiveness and dependability, Oluoch expressed confidence in his potential as Nairobi’s future governor, highlighting his commitment to community welfare.

Both legislators concluded the gathering with a generous contribution to the fundraise
