Westlands Member of Parliament, Tim Wanyonyi, joined forces with the United Women Empowerment Programme-Africa (UWEP-Africa) today to host a significant prostate cancer awareness event in Nairobi.
The event saw the empowerment of over 1,000 men from the capital city.
Expressing gratitude to UWEP-Africa for their efforts in conducting health empowerment programs, MP Wanyonyi highlighted the strides women are making in empowering themselves, not only in health matters but also economically.
He urged men to take advantage of the programs offered by UWEP-Africa to acquire knowledge and raise awareness about essential health practices crucial for transforming Kenya.
Moreover, Hon. Wanyonyi emphasized the importance of health empowerment programs in sustaining the stability of the country’s economy.
He stressed that losing one’s health equates to losing everything, regardless of accumulated wealth.
To further support men’s health empowerment, the MP pledged to sponsor a free medical camp providing screenings and checkups at no cost.
Additionally, he committed to supporting participants without active NHIF medical cover by contributing to payments to ensure their covers are active, facilitating easy access to medical services.
“It is important to empower our population; men, women, and youth all need empowerment,” said Hon. Tim Wanyonyi.
“I envision a healthy nation, which can only be achieved by empowering all genders and ages, including men, women, and the youth,” he added.
The prostate cancer sensitization was led by Dr. Samuel Maingi Kagiri, a Urologist, who delivered a comprehensive talk.
Participants also received training on integrated sexual health by Dr. Muigai Mararo, another Urologist who accompanied Dr. Kagiri.
The health awareness forum concluded with a talk on physical fitness by Henry Muthui, a health fitness coach.
Mr. Wanyonyi has been instrumental in designing and implementing uplifting women and youth empowerment programs in his constituency over the last decade.
Consistently ranked as the best MP in Kenya based on his empowerment and education transformation initiatives coupled with his stellar representation in parliament, he now turns his focus towards male empowerment, a sector often overlooked by government and private stakeholders.
