Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi took another step toward his 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial campaign as he led the distribution of bursary cheques in Westlands. The cheques were part of the Westlands National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) program, providing crucial financial assistance to secondary and college students in Kitisuru and Parklands wards.
During the distribution at Loresho Secondary School, Kitisuru Member of County Assembly Alvin Olando praised Hon Tim Wanyonyi for his consistent leadership and commitment to Westlands. “Your shoes are too big to fill,” Olando remarked, acknowledging Wanyonyi’s impressive record. He revealed his intention to take over the Westlands MP seat when Wanyonyi moves to Nairobi City Hall. “As your firstborn politically, I ask for your forgiveness for being misquoted as an acting MP by bloggers,” Olando said, seeking the MP’s guidance and support.
Hon Tim Wanyonyi addressed the crowd at Loresho, emphasizing the importance of unity among local leaders. He mentioned a potential rift between Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando and Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya, promising to mediate and maintain harmony. “When I leave Westlands, I want you to get an MP who will take Westlands to a higher ground than I will leave it,” he stated, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition.
Wanyonyi also outlined his broader political aspirations, noting his intent to contest the Nairobi governorship in 2027. He highlighted the significance of Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Chairmanship and urged the community to pray for his success. “As his sons, we are praying for him to clinch that seat,” he said, emphasizing the impact such a position would have on Kenya and the continent.
At the bursary distribution at Highridge Primary School in Parklands, Parklands MCA Tash Ndegwa expressed gratitude to Wanyonyi for his leadership and support for development projects. “You lead from the front. Your track record speaks for itself,” Ndegwa noted, applauding the MP’s work in Westlands. He also acknowledged Wanyonyi’s aspirations for the governorship, promising to support his campaign. “We will hold your hands and support you in your aspirations,” he said.
Wanyonyi took the opportunity to criticize the current Nairobi City Hall administration, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja, citing reports of corruption and mismanagement. “The auditor general is saying that Governor Sakaja’s administration is busy pilferaging county resources, while Nairobi is suffering,” Wanyonyi stated. He assured Westlands residents that he would continue to serve diligently and vowed to bring accountability to Nairobi if elected as governor.
The Westlands NG-CDF program has so far distributed bursary cheques to students in Parklands, Kitisuru, Kangemi, and Mountain View wards, with Karura Ward’s distribution scheduled for Friday at KTTC grounds. Each ward receives 1,000 bursary cheques for secondary students and 300 for college students, providing KES 5,000 and KES 10,000, respectively.
