Why schools are reopening earlier for grade four pupils. This is because as per for the CBC grade 4 is the senior most class. Grade four involves eight lessons every day that are 45 minutes long. PS Belio Kipsang said that the dynamics of teaching grade 4 is different from the other grades.
Parents, students and the public have questioned why the grade 4 pupils should go back to school. While the older pupils, who are capable of adhering to Ministry of Health guidelines stay at home. Education CS directed all the KCPE and KCSE candidates to report back to school next week. Also the grade 4 pupils are to report back. This is because they are the pioneers of the new curriculum.
The CS defends the move saying its in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive. They followed broad-bases education stakeholders consultations. This move did not sit well with parents and some politicians.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Murkomen said that the directive was outrageous. Murkomen is just one of the many Kenyans questioning why the young pupils are going back to school. The rest of the grades and forms will have to wait to be told when they will resume one on one learning.
But why do Grade Four pupils have to go back to school?. Just like class 8 is top in the 8-4-4 system class four is top in the CBC. They are the candidates of the CBC and the candidates are the ones who are going back to school.
These students are expected to graduate to junior secondary. This is after they are done with grade Four e exams. It was said that grade involves more than one teacher. It also has alot of technicalities that need keen observation. The subject will be distributed into 40 lessons a week. The frequent tought6subject having five lessons and the less frequent being taught once a week.
Normally, teachers in upper primary teach two or three subjects per class. With only two teachers trained the work load is going to be heavier.
