The Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) will not be entirely abolished, Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has assured Kenyans.
The MP has told parents and learners that the CBC will not be scrapped but instead, it will be bolstered to make it more beneficial to learners, parents and the country.
“We are not just going to focus on examination achievement, we are focusing on all round achievement of children, we are focusing in creativity, on children who will develop wholesomely not just drilling them to pass exams,” he assured.
According to the MP, the CBC needs to offer solutions to current day challenges by equipping learners with skills, knowledge and proper decision making.
To him, CBC will be strengthened, explaining that a taskforce put in place by President William Ruto will come up with a report which will inform of the way forward.
“That is why the President said they are going to review that programme of CBC to make sure we get the best out of it. But we are not going to scrap it. We are encouraging that CBC will remain but we improve and make it better,” he noted.
He was speaking on Friday, October 28, at Bohra Primary School when he officially unveiled a new administration block.
The block is meant to ease the working conditions of teachers at the school and as well offer a conducive working environment.
At the same time, he promised to petition parliament so that footbridges are erected on the busy Waiyaki way especially where schools are situated so that learners can be safe when crossing the road.
The legislator said the lives of the learners were so important and cannot be left at the mercy of motorists, some who are careless on the roads.
Consequently, he put land grabbers on notice and warned security agents against protecting them.
“There are some people salivating at this school’s land and make it their private property. But we will say no,” he said.
Mr Wanyonyi warned that he may be forced to take stern action against any person or entity eyeing public property, especially school land, in the city constituency.“I am sending a warning that we have a new government and if you continue like that, I will report to the president himself. And I will tell him there are conmen and it is your security people protecting them,” he warned.
