A high school student from Kamunda Secondary School in Awendo, Migori County has been arrested for falsely claiming to be kidnapped and demanding a ransom of Ksh.20,000 from his mother.
Joseph Odhiambo, 22, was apprehended by his mother and brought to the Awendo police station after confessing that his supposed abduction was just a fabrication.
He had told his mother that he had been taken by unknown individuals on January 5th, and then showed up at her house on January 9th wearing clothes covered in fake blood.
Odhiambo admitted to sending messages to his mother demanding the ransom money, which he said was needed to pay his school fees.
However, his mother stated that he had no unpaid fees prior to the incident. Police are still investigating the matter and Odhiambo may face disciplinary action.
