A good menstruation hygiene can only be achieved when one has the right and enough resources. But it’s so unfortunate that some lack the resources. Lack of access to basic menstrual hygiene products has led to many women and girls using material such as pieces of cloth. As ladies, it is compulsory to keep clean during the period. Otherwise, it can cause infections or damage the reproductive system.
MHM PRACTICES
Some of the important menstrual health management include:
Taking a shower regularly-during periods some blood may enter the space in the crust hence washing is the only way of cleaning it. It also prevents poor odor on the vagina.
Avoid using soaps or vaginal products-the vagina has its own cleaning mechanism. Using soap can kill some good bacteria making way for infections.
Discarding used sanitary towels-ensure that after using a sanitary pad or tampon, you carefully wrap and dispose appropriately. Afterwards make sure you wash your hands well.
Proper cleaning of the vagina
Changing regularly-it’s highly advisable that one should not stay with a pad to more than 4 hours. This can create an environment for harmful bacteria which can cause urinary tract infections and vaginal infections.
Using cotton fitting pants-they are comfortable to walk around with.
Using one method of sanitation-avoid trying out a new thing that the body is not used to. If you are used to pads use pads only but not tampons and pads and vice versa.
Lack of exercises, poor diets and bad lifestyle can cause some menstrual irregularities. However, every lady out there should be proud and not shy off about menstruation. Both genders should understand this issue and always raise awareness where possible.
