Mama Ann Nanyama Wetang’ula Laid to Rest inn Bungoma

Mama Ann Nanyama Wetang’ula, mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, was laid to rest on Friday, December 3, 2024 in Mukhweya Village, Bungoma County.

The ceremony drew thousands of mourners and distinguished leaders from Kenya and across Africa, led by President William Ruto.

Westlands MP Hon. Tim Wanyonyi delivered a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on his mother’s deep Christian faith and her role as the cornerstone of their family. He emphasized her unwavering commitment to unity and the Christian values she instilled in her children.

Hon. Wanyonyi shared personal anecdotes, highlighting her remarkable memory and the special bond they shared. He expressed confidence that she is now at peace, resting with the angels.

In his eulogy, Hon. Wanyonyi remarked:

“Our mother has gone to be with the Lord. She was a Christian and she taught us Christian values. She kept us together as a family.”

He further shared:

“I was very close to her and was the last person who stayed with her longest among my siblings. She always gave you good surprises after giving you a promise and kept her word without forgetting.”

The funeral was attended by over 70 MPs and Senators, including Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, Minority Leader Hon. Junet Mohamed, Deputy Speaker Hon. Gladys Boss, and former MPs led by Hon. Fred Gumo.

Also present were Principal Secretaries, senior Parliamentary and County officers, and other key leaders such as Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, Senate Speaker H.E. Amason Kingi, Cabinet Ministers Hon. Hassan Joho,

Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, Hon. John Mbadi, and Hon. Debra Mulongo, as well as COTU Secretary General Mr. Francis Atwoli.

Speakers of East African National Assemblies in attendance included Hon. Tulia Ackson (Tanzania), Hon. Annette Anita Among (Uganda), Hon. Nana Kumba (South Sudan), and Mr. Joseph Ndimbaturimana (EAC). Governors present were H.E. Fernandes Barasa, H.E. Dr. Paul Otuoma, H.E. George Natembeya and the host, H.E. Kenneth Lusaka.
