Huduma Namba is Back, announces Matiang’i

The government has announced rolling out of Huduma Namba. During this year’s celebration of Mashujaa Day, the Interior Security CS, Dr. Fred Matiang’i launched issuing of Huduma Namba e-cards. Immediately, the President received his, and gave ten individuals their cards.

The President announced the government is awaiting approval of a Data Commissioner by the Parliament. After that, the government shall start issuing these cards to citizens that registered last year. The President nominated Immaculate Kassait for the Position. Now, all eyes are on the parliament, which will approve or reject this appointment.

If the Parliament goes forward and approves Kassait, Kenyans will begin receiving their Huduma Namba cards. However, if this does not happen, the President shall have to appoint another individual, and this process shall happen again.

Huduma Namba cards issued shall contain all information about individuals and citizens will use them to acquire government services. The cards shall have all personal information in one card. This shall reduce the number of cards an individual has to carry around. These services shall be both in government offices and online.

Previously, some citizens had filed cases questioning security of their data in these cards. This slowed down the process of card production. However, production of the cards is ongoing, as  previously announced by interior security PS Dr. Karanja Kibicho.
