MP Tim Wanyonyi Praised by Gen Z Victims for his Support and Solidarity

In a heartfelt display of empathy and support, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi, the MP for Westlands, visited Gen Z victims hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital. These brave young individuals, injured by police during recent anti-government protests, expressed their gratitude for the MP’s solidarity and concern.

The soft-spoken legislator witnessed firsthand the diverse and severe injuries inflicted on the protestors. Some victims bore trauma injuries from rubber bullets, while others suffered broken bones and more critical injuries from live ammunition. The emotional encounters highlighted the harsh realities faced by these young protestors in their quest for justice and rights.

As they interacted, the victims shared their harrowing experiences of the protests. They recounted the moments leading up to their injuries, painting a vivid picture of the violence and chaos that erupted during the demonstrations. Hon. Wanyonyi listened attentively, offering words of comfort and reassurance.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of young lives and the injuries sustained by many of our youth during these protests,” Hon. Wanyonyi stated. “We must honour their courage and continue to fight for justice peacefully.”

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) recently reported that 39 people have died, and 361 have been injured during the protests against unpopular tax increases.

These figures starkly contrast the government’s earlier disclosures, shedding light on the gravity of the situation. The protests, which were largely peaceful, escalated into violent confrontations, with police using excessive and disproportionate force against demonstrators.

Hon. Wanyonyi condemned the police brutality that led to the injuries and deaths of these young individuals.

“The force used against the protestors was excessive and disproportionate,” he emphasized.

“We must ensure that such unwarranted violence is never repeated. Our youth should not pay with their lives and well-being for standing up for their rights.”
