In a bid to strengthen parliamentary oversight and legislative effectiveness, members of the National Assembly from the opposition in Kenya played host to their counterparts from Uganda on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
Led by the esteemed Westlands MP, Hon Tim Wanyonyi, the Kenyan delegation welcomed the Ugandan MPs who sought to benchmark on best practices in executing their mandate as members of the opposition in parliament.
The meeting provided an invaluable platform for both parties to share insights, experiences, and legislative strategies aimed at holding the executive arm of government accountable and advocating for policy change. Hon Wanyonyi, accompanied by Hon Peter Kaluma, Hon Dr James Nyikal, and Hon Irene Mayaka Nyakerario, emphasized the importance of robust parliamentary engagement and the role of the opposition in fostering good governance and transparency.
On the Ugandan side, the delegation was led by the Rt Hon Joel Ssenyonyi, the Opposition Leader in Parliament, alongside Hon Lutamaguzi Ssemakula, Hon Naluyima Betty Ethel, Hon Hellen Nakimuli, Hon Nyeko Derrick, and Hon Nyakato Asinasi.
The exchange of ideas and experiences between the two delegations underscores the importance of regional cooperation and collaboration in enhancing democratic processes and legislative effectiveness across East Africa.
