Jude Bellingham Rescues Three Lions in Norway vs England World Cup Classic

The Norway vs England World Cup quarter-final matchup on Sunday, July 12, 2026, delivered pure, unadulterated footballing drama. England survived an incredibly tough test from a resilient Norwegian side, emerging with a hard-fought 2-1 victory after extra time. The Three Lions booked their semi-final spot in the most dramatic fashion imaginable, keeping their ultimate tournament dreams alive.

Norway vs England World Cup: Schjelderup Shocks the Three Lions

Norway started the game with immense confidence, looking to pull off a monumental upset. They successfully broke the deadlock in the 36th minute. Andreas Schjelderup found the back of the net with a brilliant finish after capitalizing on a clever assist from Martin Ødegaard. England struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined Norwegian defense, heading into the halftime break trailing 1-0.

Recognizing the need for an immediate response, England’s bench acted decisively before the second half commenced. They made a crucial double substitution at the 46-minute mark. Eberechi Eze came on for Declan Rice, while Bukayo Saka replaced Noni Madueke.

Bellingham Answers the Call in the Second Half

The changes paid off almost instantly. In the 47th minute, Jude Bellingham found the equalizer for England, clinical finishing after a smart pass from Anthony Gordon. The momentum of the Norway vs England World Cup tie swung back and forth. Norway thought they had retaken the lead in the 57th minute, but Torbjorn Heggem’s goal was dramatically disallowed following a VAR review.

Both managers turned to their benches to find a winning edge. Norway brought on Fredrik Aursnes, Oscar Bobb, and Antonio Nusa. Meanwhile, England introduced Reece James and Djed Spence. As regular time wound down, Norway made additional defensive changes. Marcus Holmgren Pedersen and Leo Ostigard entered the pitch in the 90th minute. Despite the late pressure, neither side could find a late winner, sending the game into a tense extra-time period.

Extra Time Drama Decides the Epic Quarter-Final

The grueling physical battle continued into extra time. However, England’s star power ultimately made the difference. In the 93rd minute, Jude Bellingham rose to the occasion once more. He struck a sensational unassisted goal to make it 2-1, sending the travelling English fans into absolute raptures.

Consequently, Norway threw everything forward. They brought on forward Jorgen Strand Larsen for Erling Haaland in the 105th minute. Therefore, England responded with a defensive reinforcement. Dan Burn replaced the heroic Jude Bellingham in the 111th minute to lock things down. Norway’s frustrations boiled over in the dying minutes as Kristoffer Ajer received a yellow card in the 117th minute. England’s defense held incredibly firm under late pressure to secure the historic victory.

Both nations fielded exceptionally strong starting elevens for this high-stakes knockout match:

  • Norway Starting Lineup: Nyland (1) started in goal. The backline featured Wolfe (5), Heggem (17), Ajer (3), and Ryerson (26). The midfield was controlled by Berg (6), Berge (8), and playmaker Ødegaard (10). Up front, Schjelderup (21) and Sorloth (7) supported star striker Haaland (9).
