Linda Mwananchi Raises Sh1.63 Million During Western Kenya Tour Led by Edwin Sifuna

July 28, 2026 2 Min Read

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Linda Mwananchi Movement has announced that it raised Sh1,629,662 during its weekend tour of Western Kenya led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The movement said supporters contributed the money through M-Pesa and cash donations during rallies held across the region. According to the organisers, the fundraising drive reflects growing grassroots support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Bungoma Records Highest Contributions

Bungoma County recorded the highest amount raised during the tour.

The movement collected Sh914,473 through M-Pesa donations from 13,528 contributors.

Meanwhile, supporters in Kitale contributed Sh692,124 through M-Pesa, with 9,952 people making donations.

In addition, residents of Kamukuywa donated Sh23,065 in cash during the campaign trail.

The movement thanked residents across Western Kenya for turning up in large numbers and supporting its activities through public contributions.

Residents Turn Rally Into Fundraiser

One of the highlights of the tour came in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, where a roadside political rally quickly turned into a spontaneous fundraising drive.

Supporters donated small amounts ranging from Sh20 coins to Sh50 notes and other denominations as they gathered around Sifuna’s convoy.

Videos shared on social media showed residents making their way through the crowd to hand over their contributions directly to the movement’s leaders.

Sifuna Says Ordinary Kenyans Will Fund His Campaign

Speaking after receiving the donations, Sifuna said he preferred support from ordinary Kenyans instead of wealthy financiers.

“They said one cannot be president in this country without money. I would rather be indebted to the people giving me as little as Sh10 than be indebted to one person who will give me Sh10 million,” Sifuna said.

The Nairobi Senator argued that large donations from a few wealthy individuals often influence government decisions after elections.

“Those people will give you Sh10 million and then follow us when we take over the leadership of the country and demand to be given huge contracts,” he added.

Paybill Continues to Receive Donations

Sifuna said the movement’s paybill continued to receive daily contributions from Kenyans across the country.

He described the donations as a sign of growing public confidence in the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

“They said we don’t have money, but the paybill is bringing in money every day. I want to thank you for the many Sh10 contributions you have sent,” Sifuna said.

“We don’t need the government’s money. We will walk with the power of the citizens.”

Leaders Intensify 2027 Grassroots Campaign

The Linda Mwananchi team visited several trading centres across Western Kenya during the tour. As a result, the leaders attracted large crowds as they stepped up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna travelled with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and other leaders allied to the movement.

The successful fundraising campaign marks another milestone for the Linda Mwananchi Movement as it seeks to build a nationwide political network powered by small public donations rather than wealthy political sponsors.
