TSC Announces 34,016 Teacher Promotions Across 30 Job Cadres
NAIROBI, Kenya – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the promotion of 34,016 teachers across 30 job cadres in one of the largest career progression exercises in recent years.
The commission said the promotions target qualified teachers serving in primary and secondary schools. The exercise follows the Career Progression Guidelines for teachers.
In a notice signed by Acting Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei, TSC invited eligible teachers to apply for the advertised positions. The promotions range from Job Group C2 to Grade D5.
Applications will be submitted online only, and the deadline is Monday, August 10, 2026, at midnight.
Promotions Cover Leadership and Teaching Positions
The promotion exercise includes senior leadership, teaching and curriculum support positions across the education sector.
Among the vacancies are:
- 54 Chief Principal positions and seven Chief Principal (Teacher Training College) positions in Grade D5.
- 148 Senior Principal positions and seven Senior Principal (Teacher Training College) positions in Grade D4.
- 770 Principal positions, seven Principal (Teacher Training College) positions and six Principal positions for schools serving learners with disabilities in Grade D3.
- 891 Deputy Principal II positions in Grade D2.
Thousands of Vacancies Across Other Cadres
TSC has also advertised promotions for several other teaching and administrative positions.
These include:
- 1,068 Deputy Principal III positions and five Deputy Principal III positions for schools serving learners with disabilities.
- 199 Senior Headteacher positions and five Senior Headteacher positions for schools serving learners with disabilities.
- 1,865 Deputy Headteacher I positions and 20 Deputy Headteacher I positions for schools serving learners with disabilities.
- 3,075 Deputy Headteacher II positions and 20 Deputy Headteacher II positions for schools serving learners with disabilities.
- 4,210 Senior Teacher I positions in regular schools and schools serving learners with disabilities.
- 13,490 Senior Teacher II positions, the highest number of vacancies in the promotion exercise.
The commission also advertised vacancies for Senior Masters, Senior Lecturers, Curriculum Support Officers and other leadership positions in schools and teacher training colleges.
How to Apply
TSC urged interested teachers who meet the required qualifications to submit their applications through the TSC online portal.
The commission will not accept manual applications.
The application window will close at midnight on Monday, August 10, 2026.
Successful Teachers to Fill Existing Vacancies
According to Acting CEO Evaleen Mitei, successful applicants will fill vacancies in schools where promotion opportunities exist.
Additionally, the commission encouraged teachers employed by TSC and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to apply.
Furthermore, TSC said it will evaluate all applications using the Career Progression Guidelines for the respective job cadres.
The promotion exercise is expected to boost career growth for thousands of teachers while strengthening leadership and service delivery in schools across the country.
