Kakamega School, popularly known as the Green Commandos, produced a dominant display over the weekend during the Kakamega Central Sub-County Games to book their place in the quarter-finals in emphatic fashion.
The Commandos began their campaign with a solid 3-0 victory over Ikonyero, setting the tone for what would become a ruthless run in the group stage. Julius Ochieng, Derrick Wanyonyi, and Daniel Ombati were all on target as Kakamega School combined defensive discipline with sharp attacking football to secure maximum points in the opener.
The boys followed it up with an even more devastating performance, thrashing Esokone 9-0 in one of the standout results of the tournament so far. Derrick Wanyonyi stole the headlines with an incredible five-goal haul, while Julius Ochieng grabbed a brace, Brighton Nacheri netted twice, and Macline Adika also got on the scoresheet.

Brighton “Messi” Nacheri was among the standout performers of the weekend, impressing with his explosive agility, quick feet, dribbling ability, and creativity in attack. His thunderbolt strike against Esokone after a swift tiki-taka move by the Green Commandos became one of the highlights of the tournament.

Midfielder Eugene Beleti Ochieng also continued to underline his growing reputation as one of the team’s most influential players. The versatile midfielder dominated duels, controlled the tempo, and provided excellent vision and passing range while covering both defensive and attacking duties effectively.
Kakamega School completed the group stage with another commanding performance, dismantling Maraba 5-0 to confirm their place in the quarter-finals. Fidel Odhiambo, Bradley Muliamba, Julius Ochieng, and Macline Adika, who scored twice, guided the Green Commandos to victory as the team maintained its free-scoring form.
By the end of the weekend, the Green Commandos had scored an astonishing 17 goals in three matches while keeping three clean sheets — a clear statement of intent as they continue their pursuit of sub-county glory.
Kakamega School will now face Shieywe in the quarter-finals scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Kakamega High School grounds. The winner will advance to the semi-finals and potentially the finals, both set to be played on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
With only one team set to represent Kakamega Central Sub-County at the upcoming Kakamega County Games in June, the stakes are now even higher as the Green Commandos look to continue their dominant run and secure the coveted qualification spot.
The Commandos head into the knockout stage full of confidence, carrying strong momentum, attacking firepower, and growing belief as they chase sub-county glory.
