MP Tim Wanyonyi Extends Relief to Ananda Marga Fire Victims in Kangemi

More than 30 families affected by a recent fire outbreak in Ananda Marga area, Kanoora area, Kangemi Ward in Westlands Constituency, have received relief support from Hon. Tim Wanyonyi through his office.

The fire incident, which occurred during the day on 19th May 2026, is suspected to have been caused by an abandoned jiko. The inferno destroyed 30 houses, leaving approximately 90 residents homeless and without basic necessities. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

According to residents, firefighters and fire engines arrived at the scene after the houses had already been completely destroyed.

The affected families included children, elderly persons, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and single mothers, all of whom suffered heavy losses. Victims lost important documents, school items, household goods, clothing, and personal belongings.

One of the victims, identified as Joy, narrated her painful experience after losing everything in the fire, including construction materials she had purchased to transport to her rural home.

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s office distributed relief support in the form of foodstuffs and blankets to all the affected families.

The MP was represented by Deputy Manager at the Constituency Office Evans Ochieng, Kangemi Coordinator Moses Esemele, among other officers from the constituency office.

While conveying the MP’s message of solidarity to the victims, the leaders assured residents that Hon. Wanyonyi stands with them during this difficult period.

“Pole sana for the loss. We are together with you during this difficult moment. Hon. Tim Wanyonyi will continue serving the people diligently until 2027 and asks for your prayers as he prepares to vie for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat after faithfully serving Westlands Constituency for three terms,” the message read.

Residents thanked the MP for the timely intervention and support extended to the affected families as they begin rebuilding their lives after the tragedy.
