Wanyonyi Launches Kangemi Police Housing Project and Two Roads

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has launched the construction of 10 staff houses at Kangemi Police Station.

The Westlands NG-CDF project will provide decent accommodation for police officers serving the Kangemi community. The contractor will build five units on the ground floor and five on the first floor.

Later, Wanyonyi launched two road projects implemented by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority. The roads include a section of the Thiongo–Gichagi–Watiti Road and the Uthiru–Kabete Polytechnic–Off-Road–Waiyaki Way.

Kangemi Police Station to Get 10 Staff Houses

Westlands NG-CDF Fund Manager Amos Wainaina said the new police quarters would contain 10 staff houses.

Each unit will have a kitchenette and a bedroom. Moreover, the project team expects to complete the work within 16 weeks. Westlands NG-CDF has tentatively scheduled the handover for December.

Wainaina said NG-CDF conducts public participation every two years. During the meetings, residents identify and prioritise their development needs.

“We prioritise the needs raised by the community. We will construct the project with precision and ensure value for money,” Wainaina said.

He also invited residents with questions to visit the Westlands NG-CDF office.

NG-CDF Promises Close Supervision

Westlands NG-CDF Committee Chairlady Frida Lenayasa said the committee prioritised the project after identifying the officers’ housing needs.

“Police officers deserve to live in decent houses,” Lenayasa said.

She explained that NG-CDF supports education, security and some environmental programmes. In addition, she credited Wanyonyi’s leadership for the development projects taking place across Westlands.

“We ensure that we complete every project we start. Therefore, we will supervise and monitor this project from beginning to end,” she said.

Lenayasa also promised that the committee would demand quality work and value for money.

“As the NG-CDF Committee, we follow the needs of the community. Hon. Tim has supported us as we carry out this mandate, and we congratulate him,” she added.

Residents Welcome the Housing Project

Community representative Risper welcomed the project and thanked Wanyonyi for supporting schools, roads and police housing in Kangemi.

“This project will help the community. It will also improve security because police officers will become more accessible,” Risper said.

She added that decent housing would motivate officers to serve residents effectively. However, she challenged Wanyonyi to support the renovation of the entire station.

Another community representative, Richard, said the station serves the wider Kangemi community.

“This station will benefit our community, and we really appreciate the project,” Richard said.

Kevin, a Kangemi youth representative, described the area as his lifelong home. He also thanked Wanyonyi for constructing classrooms in local schools.

“This is our home. I was born and raised here,” Kevin said.

Leaders Link Police Welfare to Better Security

Westlands Deputy County Commissioner Mayabi Buxton praised Wanyonyi for supporting security programmes.

“Security is important because it allows businesses and other activities to thrive,” Buxton said.

He also recognised the work that Westlands NG-CDF has undertaken in local schools. For example, he cited the establishment of Kabete Vet Lab Secondary School.

Furthermore, Buxton warned criminal groups against disrupting peace in the area.

“We will not allow youth criminal gangs, commonly known as ‘mbogi,’ to operate here,” he said.

Kangemi OCPD Samuel Kiplong thanked Wanyonyi for supporting the police. He also praised Kangemi residents for maintaining peace.

“Thank you for remembering us. I also thank Kangemi residents for maintaining peace in the area,” Kiplong said.

Constituency Office Backs the Initiative

Westlands Constituency Office Manager Centring Simuli thanked Wanyonyi for initiating the project.

“Security is very important. Businesses and schools need a secure environment to operate,” Simuli said.

He added that the new houses would motivate police officers. Moreover, he assured residents that Wanyonyi would continue working for them until the end of his term in 2027.

The Westlands Constituency Office coordinates the MP’s political and constituency engagements. However, it remains distinct from the Westlands NG-CDF office, which administers NG-CDF projects.

Wanyonyi Calls for Increased Police Patrols

Wanyonyi said Westlands NG-CDF would build 10 houses at Kangemi Police Station. In comparison, it has launched 15 units at Loresho Police Station.

“We have come here to build houses for our police officers. These are Westlands NG-CDF projects,” Wanyonyi said.

He also asked the OCPD to strengthen security through increased patrols across Kangemi.

“I want to assure residents that I will serve you diligently until the end of my term,” he said.

In addition, the MP urged Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya and Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando to work together.

“You need each other. Let us work together and avoid infighting,” Wanyonyi said.

He also said residents should assess aspiring leaders based on the work they intend to undertake.

“When I came to Westlands, I said we would eliminate muddy roads. Our work continues,” he added.

MCAs Praise Investment in Police Welfare

Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya thanked Wanyonyi for supporting security projects.

He noted that Kangemi Police Station had received a new Land Cruiser through Wanyonyi’s intervention.

“God has answered our prayers through these projects. Maendeleo inaonekana,” Maleya said.

Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando also praised the housing project. He said police officers had endured poor housing conditions for many years.

“Thank you for restoring the dignity of our police officers,” Olando said.

Full Gospel Road Section Launched

After the Kangemi ceremony, Wanyonyi launched the completed section of the P3279 Thiongo–Gichagi–Watiti Road at Full Gospel.

The completed section measures 580 metres and has an average carriageway width of 5.5 metres.

Westlands KeRRA Roads Officer Admorah Wanyonyi said the project involved earthworks and drainage improvements. In addition, the contractor completed pavement construction and asphalt surfacing.

The works have improved the road’s condition and serviceability.

“We have come to launch this road. This development belongs to you,” Wanyonyi told residents.

He urged motorcycle riders and other motorists to use the road responsibly. Furthermore, he reminded residents that delivering development remains his duty.

“You sent us to work for you. Therefore, I do not need thanks because this is the mandate you gave me,” the MP said.

He also called for tolerance during the political season.

Kabete Polytechnic Road Works Improve Connectivity

Wanyonyi later inspected and launched the P3678 Uthiru–Kabete Polytechnic–Off-Road–Waiyaki Way.

The completed road section measures 385 metres.

According to Admorah Wanyonyi, KeRRA undertook earthworks, drainage improvements, pavement construction and asphalt surfacing. As a result, the project has improved the road’s condition.

Wanyonyi said the road previously had potholes and poor drainage. Consequently, water accumulated on the road and affected movement.

“This road had potholes, and water used to accumulate here. However, its condition has now improved,” he said.

The MP urged motorists and motorcycle riders to respect pedestrians and other road users.

“Our work is to serve you. Once we complete the work and you are happy, then we are satisfied,” Wanyonyi said.

He added that his office would continue approaching different agencies to secure development for Westlands residents.

“This is a day for working. You sent us to serve you, and we will continue knocking on every door to deliver development,” he said.
